After having a dinner chat with Lunatech Research, senior programmer Peter Hilton motivated me to do a blog post about the development of our company website. This is a story of sheer terror, hideous amounts of files and ugly gruesomely slaughtered imagery. Beware...
The picture below says more than a thousand words.
Some facts:
- Appearantly the infamous 'Website' folder was created on 17 sept. 2006
- Within a timeframe of less than a year this folder on our SVN (version control system) has bloated, growing to contain a staggering 2,908 folders
- The amount of files it contains (including visual designs, edits and re-re-re-re-edits and code) has added up to a mesmerizing total of 12,994 files.
- The 'Exclamation' symbol in red expresses, without compromise, the horrific nature of this project and my mental state after doing the 1,034 edit of the game module design.
A selection from these thousands of files, showing how we went from gothic to corporate:
To my great relief yesterday we've also decided to outsource this project. While this has always been our ambition we had never the time, nor the financial power to do this properly. I expect my mental state and amount of twitches to take on 'normal' proportions again soon, at least as normal as they can possibly be in my case. Anyway I'll be doing a lot more work on our games from now on which is where I am best.
Thank you Peter for giving me the opportunity to empty my heart on this topic. It's a relief.:)
Thank you Lunatech Research and Floris for stepping up to this monstrous task. I'm thrilled to see what the future brings...
